Everything You Need to Know About Tire Changeovers

Find out what a tire changeover is, when you need one, the benefits of changing your tires, how often you should change them, and more valuable tire info.

What Is A Tire Changeover?

A tire changeover is when you change your tires. An automobile might be roadworthy for 10, 12, even 20 years. No tire can last that long (assuming you drive more than a few times a year). That means, over the course of a vehicle’s lifespan, you will require multiple tire changeovers for numerous reasons.

Fall Is A Great Time For A Tire Changeover.

In St. Thomas, Ontario, Fall is when the temperature cools down. And that means you should probably switch to winter tires or all-weather tires soon. While you may know them as “snow tires”, this term is a bit of a misnomer. That’s because winter tires are about much more than just snow.

In St. Thomas, some years we may not get any significant snowfall until January. Even so, it is wise to change to winter or all-weather tires before mid-November. All-season tires and summer tires lose their capacity to grip the road in temperatures as warm as seven degrees Celsius. At this temperature, the rubber compounds begin to stiffen and can’t provide the traction you need. Both winter tires and all-weather tires can provide the proper traction you need from mid-autumn until mid-spring.

Spring Is Another Great Time For A Tire Changeover.

Driving on all-weather or winter tires all year isn’t a safety hazard, but we don’t recommend it. It can reduce your mileage and might misalign your wheels. Over time, you will probably save money by switching to all-season or summer tires in warm weather and to winter or all-weather tires in cold weather.

You Want To Change Your Tires In June, Too.

Some drivers like special summer tires for hot weather. These are typically high-performance tires. Drivers of luxury vehicles especially like summer tires for the best driving experience from June to September.

You Will Need A Tire Change When Your Tire Treads Wear Out.

Even if you change your tires four times a year and drive safely and defensively, your tires will wear out, eventually. Depending on how deep the treads are, most tires last for 60,000km–100,000km. After that, it’s time for a tire changeover.

Punctures, Tears, And Ruptures

If your tire sustains a deep puncture or a rupture, you will need a tire changeover. Some drivers are comfortable putting on their own spare, but if not, or you don’t have a spare, or more than one tire is damaged, you can come to Gurr Auto. We would be happy to change your tires for you.

Sometimes It’s Just Time For A Change.

Maybe your tires are in good condition, but they are just not the right tires for you. That’s OK. At Gurr Auto, we have a wide range of tire models and tire brands available.
